Setting a trend - White cars
January 2010.
When i first started looking for a special edition long wheel base pajero, i was pointed to the snow athlete as the nicest option, the other options being a fieldmaster or greenfields.
I wanted something special, unique, and good looking. I straight away loved the Snow Athlete model, though the colour at first put me off. I never imagined owning a white car. One of my earliest car memories is of a white peugeot 205 with rust in the paintwork, which ran down the white paint and make it look so very very ugly.
However, I got past this, when i saw the car it looked massive, the colour seems to make it look even bigger than it is. The paint looked fairly poor up close though. There were spirals, and water marks, what looked like scratched under the paint surface too. I didnt own many products for cleaning cars at the time, having owned new cars previously which didnt require special treatment.
When I got the snow athlete the first thing i did was buy some Meigars Paint Cleaner, and I spent a long time covering every inch with this stuff and rubbing the marks out of the surface. The product is brilliant and it made the cars paint look almost new, shiny and very smooth. Since then I have loved the colour white on a car.
It was shortly after that I noticed new cars appearing in white paint and looking fantastic. The first to catch my eye was the Audi R8. I still think this is the best white car there is, i dont know what Audi add to their paint but its magic.

Soon after I noticed a flurry of new cars in white, and all of them looked fantastic.
On the back of this i decided to write this article, and show some pictures of these great looking cars. I looked up the global colour rating which are reported each year by DuPont and white actually gained top spot in 2007, remained there in 2008 and fell to third, behind Silver and Black in 2009. Maybe the UK is slower to follow the USA (and of course China who are now the biggest consumer of new cars) but I think 2010 will be a bumper year for new white cars appeaing in the UK on a driveway near you.
As well as the Audi above, here are some more reasons why:
The VW Scirocco, i think they look even better in the metal than they do in photos. Strange that.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. One of my favoriate cars.

Land Rover's Range Rover. Saw one of these when i was out driving a few weeks ago and it was imposing. A huge car and looked incredible in white. Too many black ones out there.

VW's Golf GTI. Always a good looking car, but in white like this it looks great.

Another VW. This one a Polo GTI. The white makes it look bigger than it is.

Porche Cayenne - Love this car one minute, hate it the next. I still dont know. But it does look good in white.

Ford's Kuga. Fairly new to the UK market, not my first choice 4x4, or second or third or fourth for that matter. But its a good attempt by Ford, and it looks nice in white.

I'll be adding more as I spot them.
